Rick Zamperin: Will Johnny Manziel go boom or bust in Game 1?

Manziel sat out most of the fourth quarter since the game was already locked up.

There were moments where Manziel showed off some of the ability that captivated football fans when he rose to prominence in 2012 as the Heisman Trophy victor at Texas A&M.

"If we win this game on Friday night we're back to where we want to be, even after the mishaps that we had at the start of the season", said Manziel.

Montreal Alouettes quarterback Johnny Manziel (2) throws a pass against the Hamilton Tiger-Cats during the first half of a Canadian Football League game Friday, Aug. 3, 2018, in Montreal.

With Montreal trailing 35-3, the former National Football League first-round pick was under pressure and lobbed up his fourth interception in just the first half of play. It went just about as bad as it could possibly go.

Three of Manziel's four interceptions came on passes that he had no business throwing. I feel I can contribute that for sure. Masoli will have one of his favourite receivers, Luke Tasker, back after missing two games with a lower body injury. "It's a great opportunity for us. It's pro football. He'll get better just like everyone else".

"This game humbles you", Manziel said. However, head coach Mike Sherman said he will stick with Manziel as his starting quarterback for Montreal's game against Ottawa next week.

Montreal is a rebuilding team and there aren't many good pieces in place for Manziel to take advantage of.

"He'll have to start eventually and he'll have some growing pains. I've had this experience in the past and there's two ways you go about this going forward".

"I'm going to go out and throw the s- out of the ball, there is no doubt about that", Manziel, who was traded to Montreal on July 23, said on the Comeback SZN podcast.

Manziel refused to blame his lack of preparation time for his performance.

HOT MASOLI - The Ti-Cat pivot is second in the CFL with 1,914 passing yards, but only five of Hamilton's 12 touchdowns have come via the pass.

LAST OUTING - Manziel's last game that counted was a 17-13 loss by Cleveland to Kansas City on December 27, 2015.
