UNC Football excited about addition of Javonte Williams

Fedora provided some unusual responses during UNC's breakout interview session Wednesday at The Westin Charlotte, claiming that football was "under attack" and that people "won't recognize it in 10 years", all in response to a question about the NCAA's new rules on kickoffs.

While Wednesday afternoon's news isn't as troubling or salacious as Fedora's freaky press conference, it is another black eye for the program that has been in the spotlight for the wrong reasons in recent years.

Correlating a change in the dynamics of football to the United States ability to exist is one heck of a reach.

"There will be decline of our country, there is no doubt", Fedora told reporters. "And if you stop learning, you're gonna struggle", said Fedora, UNC's head coach since 2012. Are we ever going to be a flawless country?

"I'm not sure that anything is proven that football, itself, causes (CTE)", Fedora said, according to the affiliate.

The coach said football is "safer right now than it's ever been", acknowledging that while players do suffer injuries - "it's a violent sport" - those who play understand "those risks".

Fedora said that years ago he asked a three-star military general why the armed forces of the US are greater than other countries'.

Fedora also said there is no link between football and Chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE).

A study previous year found that all but one of 111 brains of former National Football League players found CTE.
