Doctor Who season 11 trailer reveals 13th Doctor: Jodie Whittaker

Doctor Who season 11 trailer reveals 13th Doctor: Jodie Whittaker

"My big message to you is that this year is the flawless jumping-on point for that person in your life who's never seen Doctor Who". "It's one of those things [where] you don't know what you're looking for until you see it", Chibnall described, hailing Whittaker's performance as "fresh, amusing and very emotional".

SAN DIEGO Some 6,500 Comic-Con attendees cheered on the 13th "Doctor Who" Jodie Whittaker Thursday in San Diego in her first public appearance since getting the coveted role. "All of this is new to me", Whitaker says in the trailer, in-between galaxy-hopping and time-traversing as this show tends to do. Witty, amusing and charming from the off, it's clear that she's making the iconic role her own and we're already sold on Number Thirteen.

The new Doctor Who trailer gives fans a peek at what Whittaker's Doctor will be up to, alongside her new companions Graham (Bradley Walsh), Ryan Sinclair (Tosin Cole), and Yasmin Khan (Mandip Gill). As promised in the past, this season seems a lot more family-geared than previous runs but that doesn't mean it looks any less fun.

While we can't wait to see where (and when) we'll be going next year, we can't try and decipher what the season story might be from this teaser because it won't actually have one. He also recalled when Whittaker first walked on set and how she sold the crew on her being the new Doctor right away, which was no easy feat.

The universe is calling, and Jodie Whittaker is here to answer. "I want for all of you talking about it at the same time".

The beginning of the new trailer was a bit of a cheat, and was merely a replay of Whittaker's premiere as the Doctor at the end of last year's Christmas episode.

When the rest of the panel was asked to the describe the new Doctor in three words, the resulting word pile included "bubbly", "energetic", "witty", "effervescent" and "kickass". A viral video of a little girl responding to the news reminded her that she didn't have a TV role model who looked like her when she was young, she said. Anything! And we did get something: a new trailer with some new stuff. Season 11 will feature 10 total episodes at 50 minutes each; the show will air on both BBC One and BBC America.

Doctor Who will air on BBC America in the USA this fall. Perhaps they will show up in season twelve or perhaps Chibnall is intentionally leading us astray.

"It's 10 standalone episodes, there's no two-parters or anything like that", Chibnall, who became another new aspect of Doctor Who after being tapped as showrunner following Steven Moffat's departure, revealed.
