Singer Katy Perry, who has the most-followed account on Twitter, lost 1.5 million followers, dropping 1.4% to 108.1 million followers.

President Trump took a hit on his account as well.

Since Twitter started purging locked accounts on Thursday, the tweeter-in-chief has lost 300,000 followers.

President Uhuru Kenyatta and his deputy William Ruto are among the casualties of the ongoing war on dormant and fake followers by social media giant Twitter.

A Twitter spokesperson told Newsweek the platform will see a drop in around six percent of followers in the coming days.

Reham Khan, who just released her book today lost just 9k followers which is quite a small figure as compared to the expected loss she could have experienced considering the hate she was experiencing after her book got published. Major celebs, politicians and social media influencers are at the receiving end of Twitter's major crackdown on fake and bot accounts.

Trump's account on Wednesday showed him with 53.4 million followers.

While Union textiles minister Smriti Irani lost 41,280 Twitter followers, the number of followers BJP leader Subramanian Swamy lost on the platform also stood at almost 41,000.

President Donald Trump, one of the most prolific and high-profile tweeters, lost about 100 000 of his approximately 53.4 million Twitter followers, according to the Washington Post, and former President Barack Obama lost about 400 000 from his 104 million followers. Justin Bieber lost close to the same amount as the former president, but many other celebrities saw their numbers drop too and that includes the CEO of Twitter himself.

Twitter's decision to delete locked accounts this week has cost India's political leaders lakhs of followers, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's handle seeing a decrease of over 2 lakh followers as on Friday evening.

Twitter earlier this week announced it will remove locked accounts - which are disabled owing to suspicious activity - from follower counts across profiles globally.

Well, it is now happening and people have started noticing the drop in follower accounts.
