Jurgen Klopp responds to Loris Karius’ howler against Tranmere

Jurgen Klopp insists that "mistakes happen" after goalkeeper Loris Karius once again gifted the opposition an easy goal in Liverpool's second pre-season outing.

But Reds boss Jurgen Klopp, who is reportedly convinced Karius's errors in the final were as a result of concussion, continues to back his 25-year-old No.1.

Speaking after the Tranmere game, the Liverpool manager tried to downplay Karius' mishap against the League Two side.

"It [criticism] will probably happen for a while until he has a few fantastic games, that is how the situation is", he said.

Reaching the Champions League final at the end of last season does make Liverpool a pretty big attraction for any potential recruits during the transfer window and Klopp will be hoping to get the signatures of some more stellar players.

He was asked how attention could be diverted away from Karius, saying: "You can stop it by not asking, promise?" Until he has a few fantastic games, you can not change that. That's our part of the deal.

'I've seen this situation at least 500 times in my life [when the ball] hits the chest [of a goalkeeper].

"Two brilliant footballers make this mistake, but we don't talk about it". I would say the mistake of the two boys, but we don't talk about it.

The Reds did eventually run out 3-2 winners, with goals from Rafael Camacho, Sheyi Ojo and Adam Lallana securing the victory. The first half showed all the best bits in this one, while the second half revealed the weaknesses that need addressing. We had more chances to score, but then we conceded the goals, which is not nice.
