First Mosquitoes Test Positive for West Nile Virus in Schuylkill County

Most West Nile virus infections in Wisconsin typically occur between June and September, and are transmitted to humans through a mosquito bite.

Mississippi State Department of Health discovered the first human West Nile virus case of 2018 in Hinds County.

Mosquito populations around Huron have been significantly reduced through citywide spraying, but people are reminded to remain vigilant because Culex tarsalis, the carrier of West Nile virus, is now present in higher numbers.

Officials said the areas are not typically hot spots for West Nile activity.

Old tires are a ideal breeding site for mosquitoes and should be discarded.
