They make good love in Croatia - Lovren calls for respect

Dejan Lovren believes he has shown he is one of the best defenders in world football after reaching both the Champions League and World Cup finals this summer.

Lovren has been a key part of the Croatia team that has booked their place in the final of the World Cup for the first time in their history, beating England 2-1 after extra time in the semi-finals on Wednesday night.

"It's something special for me". People are crying, they are happy in our country.

For Liverpool fans the Premier League crown remains their most sought-after trophy but under the stewardship of Jurgen Klopp there is a real sense that the club can finally add the elusive piece of silverware to their trophy cabinet.

The Croatian defence was run ragged by Raheem Sterling in the first half, one where England should have taken advantage and scored a second goal. Before this game they said we are exhausted but we showed in extra-time we had fresher legs than them.

Klopp's comments come after Lovren claimed that based on his recent exploits, including with the Reds in the Champions League, people should view him as one of the world's best defenders.

"After 20 years, people will remember us, not only the '98 team".

"He's proud of me and what I've achieved", he said. "I don't know exactly what happened before I came in", the manager told Liverpoolfc.com. People should respect us.

If Lovren and his team-mates can control Mbappe and manage the alternative threats of Olivier Giroud and Antoine Griezmann on Sunday in Moscow, Croatia will have a genuine chance of pulling off a victory.

"I really didn't understand these questions, always looking back to where I made some mistakes". I think definitely if you are in the final you are the two best teams in the world.

"But whatever, this is what gets me more motivated to work harder and prove everyone wrong, everyone".
