Kuldeep & Rohit Dominate England | England v India 1st ODI 2018 - Highlights

Virat Kohli and his team are in England for a long tour, after the three-match T20I series, they are playing as many ODIs and then will play a five-match Test series.

In his three T20I outings in 2018, Root has registered scores of 35, 0 and 9.

England and India, now ranked first and second respectively, play the first match of their upcoming series in Nottingham on Thursday, in what will kick off a month-long extravaganza of One-Day Internationals featuring 10 sides, spread across four continents.

This match was at Trent Bridge, remember. The series is also a fight for the top spot in ODI rankings as a 3-0 win for India will provide them top rank in ODI team rankings, which is now held by England. "He will be spurred on by that and he will do everything he can to make sure he is ready for Thursday s game at Trent Bridge".

Nepal gained ODI status at the ICC Cricket World Cup Qualifier in Zimbabwe earlier this year while the Netherlands regained it earlier by winning the ICC World Cricket League Championship.

This was not only a thrashing for Eoin Morgan's all-conquering side but also a sobering one against a team who could easily shatter all that hope and all those expectations England will take into their home World Cup. Moreover, the top spot in the ICC ODI rankings is also at stake with England now in top spot with India close behind in second. If England really are going to justify their status as favourites for next year's World Cup they will have to learn to master the drier, slower surfaces like this and the ones the International Cricket Council are sure to prepare.

For India, the make-up of their playing XI will be their main concern.

Rahul scored a 70 against Ireland and followed it by an unbeaten 101 against England in the first T20.

In the bowling department, Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal will once again be the key.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar - who is nursing a back problem - is not a certain starter for this game which will leave Umesh Yadav with the job of leading the pace attack. In the recently concluded three-match T20I series, India's spin-twins Yuzvendra Chahal and Kuldeep Yadav showed the audience what they are capable off.

However, Root hasn't been in the best of forms in the shortest format of the game.

Like India, the hosts' batting line-up also runs deep with the likes of Jos Buttler, Jason Roy, Alex Hales, Jonny Bairstow, Morgan and Ben Stokes. Since 2016, the English batsmen have raked up most number of runs when it comes to the 50-over format - 14,297 (1,533 runs more than the second highest team). Their last bilateral series defeat came in India in January 2017, with only a freak one-off loss to Scotland in the interim.
