Emmys 2018 Nomination Snubs - Who Was Left Off List

Emmys 2018 Nomination Snubs - Who Was Left Off List

Although season seven of Game of Thrones aired in summer 2017, due to the Emmys' eligibility cutoff, the HBO drama had to wait until this year to submit anything for consideration.

In a not unexpected development, the streaming giant Netflix led all other content providers with the most Emmy nominations today.

The news was not so good for Nicole Kidman at Thursday's Emmy nomination ceremony in Los Angeles.

Excitingly, four out of the seven nominees in the Outstanding Drama category, which arguably offers one of the biggest prizes of the night, are genre shows: Game of Thrones, Stranger Things, Westworld, and The Handmaid's Tale. Hulu's "The Handmaid's Tale" comes in second with 20 nominations.

Add up all the award nominations and Netflix is now the top Emmy nominated "network", a term that we can now apply in the loosest of terms.

Besides the repeat nomination for Dowd, "The Handmaid's Tale" scored nods for Drama Series, Actress in a Drama Series (Elisabeth Moss), Supporting Actor in a Drama Series (Joseph Fiennes), and two additional nominations for Supporting Actress in a Drama Series (Alexis Bledel and Yvonne Strahovski).

HBO has led the nominations for the last 17 years.

"Game of Thrones" may lead the pack with 22 Emmy nods this year, including one for Outstanding Drama Series, but Clarke and Harrington weren't among the recipients. HBO had 108 and NBC 78.

And HBO's "Barry" made a significant mark on the comedy voting, where Donald Glover's "Atlanta" led the way, in a field thrown wide open by the absence of three-time champ "Veep" from this year's list of contenders.

The Emmy awards will be handed out in Los Angeles on September 17 hosted by "Saturday Night Live" cast members Michael Che and Colin Jost.
