Wimbledon Novak Djokovic into semi-finals after accusing umpire 'double standards'

Serbia´s Novak Djokovic celebrates after beating Japan´s Kei Nishikori 6-3, 3-6, 6-2, 6-2 during their men´s singles quarter-finals match on the ninth day of the 2018 Wimbledon Championships.

'I'm grateful, as I said, that it was on Centre Court.

He will next face either two-time champion Rafael Nadal or fifth-seeded Juan Martin del Potro.

"So I think it's not fair but it is the way it is, in the mix of emotions and a tough match it happens".

Djokovic had four break points in the first two service games alone and suffered a Wimbledon meltdown as he bounced his racket off the ground, argued with the umpire, and then went on to lose the second set.

"I feel like I'm peaking at the right moment", declared the 12th seeded Serb after joining Americans John McEnroe and Pete Sampras in fourth place on the list of most Wimbledon semi-final appearances in the Open Era.

Djokovic secured that game with a forehand victor, then saved two game points on Nishikori's serve before converting his first match point with a forehand down the line.

After racing through the first set, Djokovic was handed his first code violation for unsportsmanlike conduct after bouncing his racquet into the grass in frustration at squandering three break points in the third game of the second set.

Meanwhile, after dropping the second set to Nishikori, Djokovic wrested back the momentum for good in the third, coming from 0-40 down at 2-2 to hold serve.

He looks very fired-up, he looks very motivated so I think Novak has got a great shot as well.' Analyzing how elbow issues influenced Djokovic's mental status, Murray added: 'He's spoken about that, he said the mental side has been hard for him.

"You think I ruined the court for just throwing my racket (down)?"

'I don't think it really mattered, to be honest. "I knew how I threw the racquet", Djokovic later explained.

The semi-final will be the 32nd of Djokovic's Grand Slam career but he has had to fight to get there.

The 12th game went to deuce eight times, with Simon saving four set points, as Del Potro failed to take his chances, the worst when he put an easy volley over the baseline with the court wide open. I'm going to play semifinals back there again.
