Serena Williams hints at Wimbledon royal guest

Williams reached her 35th Grand Slam semi-final with a gritty 3-6, 6-3, 6-4 quarter-final win over Camila Giorgi.

If Görges manages what would be an almighty upset, then we could be looking at an all-German final, something that has not happened in any grand slam event since Michael Stich upset Boris Becker at Wimbledon in 1991.

In her 13th Wimbledon quarter-final, Serena faces Italian world number 52 Camila Giorgi today.

Bertens, so impressive in her first four victories in SW19, folded in the third set and Goerges secured three breaks to storm to victory. She's come back from a set down 38 times in the majors.

Williams hit six of her seven aces in the final set, including one clocked at 122 miles per hour, and won 44 of the last 54 points she served. I'm doing a lot of the right things.

Kerber looked tight, however, when she has to clinch the match and missed fivce match points before sealing the sixth with the best rally of the tournament after 25 challenging shots as Kasatkina defended fiercely off the backhand side, drilled one of her trademark dropshots but failed to pass into the open court.

Commentator and former great Tracy Austin said: "She has zero case, it's not her point".

The tournament's 13th seed, after hitting a career-high of No.10 in the world in February, Goerges has lost all three previous match-ups with Williams, most recently in straight sets at last month's French Open on clay.

Goerges' win kept alive the possibility of Wimbledon staging an all-German women's final on Saturday as twice major victor Angelique Kerber takes on Latvia's Jelena Ostapenko in the other semi.

It was the first time she'd needed to erase a real deficit this fortnight: Williams hadn't dropped a set until facing Giorgi, who was in her first Grand Slam quarterfinal.

"At the French Open I had all that pressure, now it's gone", former junior Wimbledon champion Ostapenko said.

"It will be a different match that we played in Paris a few weeks ago", Del Potro said. She's very aggressive. She does well on grass.

Williams welcomes such A-list support, and in 2016 she kept seats aside for Beyonce and Jay-Z in the players' box on women's finals day.

However, injury cut that run short, rendering her unable to serve thanks to a pectoral muscle injury, and denying everyone a clash between Williams and Maria Sharapova.

"I'm here just to prove that I'm back, and I feel like I'm back".

Serena Williams has surprised herself by reaching the semi-finals on her Wimbledon comeback. "That doesn't matter. This is a whole new match, it's a new surface, it's everything".

Williams is chasing an eighth Wimbledon crown and the American star showed why she is the title favourite with a 6-2, 6-2 demolition of Evgeniya Rodina in the fourth round on Monday.

However, Williams lifted her intensity to level, before closing out the match to move a step closer to reclaiming the title she won in 2016.
