Liverpool confident of signing Xherdan Shaqiri from Stoke City

Liverpool have opened talks for Stoke City winger Xherdan Shaqiri as they look to trigger his £13.5 million relegation release clause.

Shaqiri has made no secret of his desire to leave the Potters following their relegation from the Premier League, with Liverpool quickly emerging as the favourites for his signature.

One of Switzerland's star performances in Russian Federation, his last-minute victor against Serbia sent the side through to the World Cup's round of 16 before their campaign drew to a close with a defeat to Sweden.

The Switzerland global is looking for a move back to the Premier League after Stoke's relegation to the Championship and it looks like Liverpool will be his new club.

Shaqiri could do little to stop Stoke from sliding down to the Championship from the Premier League last season and is on his way out of the Potters this summer.

The Reds have been in talks with his representatives over a proposed move and according to Italian broadcasterr Sportitalia, they are close to agreeing terms on a contract with the Swiss winger.

Liverpool have already bolstered their midfield options this summer with Naby Keita and Fabinho, for £52.75m from Red Bull Leipzig and £43.7m from Monaco respectively, and had lined up a £53m move for Nabil Fekir until a medical raised concerns.

Klopp's side reached the Champions League final last season but finished a distant 25 points behind record breaking champions Manchester City.
