Juventus sign Cristiano Ronaldo for $123 million

Real Madrid superstar Cristiano Ronaldo agreed to a transfer on Tuesday to Serie A club Juventus.

"For Real Madrid, Cristiano Ronaldo will always be one of its greatest symbols and a unique reference for the generations to come", the club said.

Real Madrid published a message from Ronaldo to the fans on the club's official website.

Ghana forward Kevin Prince Boateng has said he would like to see Cristiano Ronaldo join Juventus amid increasing speculation linking the Portugal star with a move - claiming that it would important for Italian football.

"All during my time in this vast and extraordinary club" added Ronaldo thanking his former team-mates and looking back on the major individual honours he won with Real.

But the five-time Ballon d'Or victor sparked more rumors when asked about his future in the immediate aftermath of Real Madrid Champions League win over Liverpool.

The Portugal global scored two goals against Juventus in Real's 4-1 win in the 2017 Champions League final and, earlier this season, struck a jaw-dropping bicycle kick against the Italian side in a 3-0 win in a quarter-final first-leg game in Turin which prompted Juve supporters to give him a standing ovation.

FC's Italian football correspondent Gabriele Marcotti said his discussions with sources from both clubs indicate Ronaldo will make his decision known within 48 hours.

He has helped them win the Champions League in four of the past five seasons, scoring in the 2014 and 2017 finals.

Upon confirmation of the move, Ronaldo declared his gratitude for nine "wonderful" years with Real while further clarifying his motives behind leaving the club.

Ronaldo, 33, spent nine years with Real Madrid, becoming the club's all-time leading goal scorer and capturing four Champions League titles with the club during that time.

The fact he did not enjoy unblighted adoration from the club despite everything he had done for them clearly annoyed Ronaldo, as did the fact that he was not offered new bloated contracts every time he asked for them.

'You have earned a special place in the history of Real Madrid. "I ask everyone, and especially our followers, to understand that." he added.

During his nine-year spell at the Santiago Bernabeu, Ronaldo won 15 trophies, including two La Liga titles and two Copa del Rey crowns. The reigning Ballon d'Or victor also thanked the fans, staff, coaches, and fellow players.
