England football fans celebrate in the streets after victory over Sweden

Gareth Southgate revelled in an "incredible feeling" but warned that England are still developing after beating Sweden 2-0 to secure a first World Cup semifinal appearance in 28 years.

Harry Maguire and Dele Alli scored with headers to advance England to the penultimate stage where they will face either Croatia or host nation Russian Federation.

"Yes, I definitely believe they are", Andersson responded when asked if England were good enough to win the tournament.

"We owe the fans a lot of thanks as well for the way they have supported us. But when England win I want you to come watch an England game at Wembley wearing an England shirt and enjoy fish and chips at half-time".

England fans celebrate as England score their second goal, as they watch the Russian Federation 2018 World Cup quarter-final football match between Sweden and England on a big screen in London.

Gareth Southgate's side recorded a comfortable victory over a limited Sweden side to set up a game against either Russian Federation or Croatia for a place in the World Cup final.

"Personally, I don't think I played as well as I should have", he said. We got goals from both areas we thought we would as we worked on those. "The resilience of the team and togetherness of the team today was crucial".

And just before Sweden could throw the kitchen sink at their opponents, Dele Alli popped up with a header of his own to put the game to bed.

Harry Kane failed to score for the first time in the competition, but the England captain said confidence was high after matching the country's best run at a major tournament since Euro '96.

Like several of his team-mates Alli has experienced life away from football's top table and was plying his trade with MK Dons during the last World Cup. We owed it for the fans at home, how they have all been supporting us.

He was involved in England's second goal, teeing up Lingard to cross for Alli at the back post. To be able to play we want to play looking forward, we need goalkeepers of that ilk.

Sweden last made it to the semifinals in 1994.

"We are in the World Cup semi-finals".

After causing the Three Lions no threat in the first, Jordan Pickford had to make two world-class saves to deny Sweden from levelling.
