Travis Pastrana successfully completes all three of Evel Knievel’s most famous jumps

X Games legend, part-time rally driver and full-time professional badass Travis Pastrana, will look to replicate three of the most risky motorcycle jumps attempted by Even Knievel tomorrow.

Pastrana, dressed in a white leather suit adorned with stars and stripes as an homage to the late Knievel (who died in 2007 aged 69), said it was "an honour to live a day in Evel's boots".

Pastrana will attempt to re-create, in order, Knievel's famous auto jump, bus jump and the aforementioned Caesars fountain.

The first jump Pastrana recreated was Knievel's 50-stacked-car jump, which Knievel landed at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum in February of 1973.

Pastrana took the stunt to another level, jumping 16 buses on his 350-pound (roughly 160kg) bike - flying 192ft in the process. The 34-year-old motocross icon, race auto driver, and all-around daredevil performed three jumps in Las Vegas. He crushed his pelvis and fractured several other bones.

He celebrated his successes by hopping into the fountain. "To be able to get a police escort, doing wheelies and burnouts on the Strip in Las Vegas, come on!" First Nitro Circus show here. "This was definitely the coolest thing I've ever done".

The History channel broadcast the event under the title "Evel Live". "And to end at Caesars Palace, to have a chance to jump the fountain, it's not the longest jump, but it's definitely the hardest".

Pastrana made the jumps on an Indian Scout FTR750, a motorcycle that resembled the v-twin Harley Davidson used by Knievel but was technically more advanced.

Travis Pastrana is no stranger to death-defying stunts.

"I'm jumping a bike that's not made for jumping", Pastrana said after arriving in Las Vegas.

The jumps were part of "Evel Live", a three-hour tribute to Knievel's legacy that aired live on the History channel in partnership with Nitro Circus, an action-sports tour co-founded by Pastrana.

While Knievel might not have necessarily been the most successful stunt artist in terms of, uh, completing all his jumps and stunts, he was among the most daring ever and inspired a generation to think bigger.
