Chris Froome eager to move on from Salbutamol saga

Chris Froome eager to move on from Salbutamol saga

Despite the UCI clearing Froome of any wrongdoing and declaring him free to race after concluding their investigation into his adverse analytical finding for salbutamol at last year's Vuelta a Espana, some sections of the crowd voiced their displeasure.

The yellow jersey is worn by the victor of the Tour de France and four-time victor Froome says he has always earned it honestly.

Froome won the Giro D'Italia in May while the anti-doping investigation against him was still ongoing and believes he has nothing to fear ahead of the tour, which starts in Noirmoutier-en-l'Île on Saturday.

"Now I just want to draw a line in the sand and move on", the 33-year-old told a news conference.

Froome, who is chasing a record-tying fifth Tour title, was left about a minute behind in the overall standings.

"I think this year's race is going to be the biggest challenge of my career", he said.

Earlier this week UCI president David Lappartient appealed to cycling fans for the safety of Froome in an interview posted on social media.

"My advice to anyone who doesn't like Chris Froome or doesn't like Sky is to come and watch the race with some other shirt, of someone you do like, and support the Tour in that way".

Geraint Thomas missed his opportunity to take the yellow jersey today but Team Sky succeeded in winning back time for Chris Froome by finishing second in the 35.5-kilometre team time-trial around Cholet.

"It's also important to respect all the riders, including Chris Froome - he is a former Tour victor and a serious contender for the next title".

He said that it was "normal" that questions were raised about abnormal test results for asthma medication Salbutamol, which he said had been necessary to treat his chronic condition since childhood.

The Team Sky rider admitted the whole affair had damaged his reputation but said he was happy to be vindicated after insisting since details of the case were leaked in December that he has done nothing wrong. "We have to focus on our race".
