Apple Music has more subscribers than Spotify in the US

The anonymous report revealed that both Spotify and Apple Music enjoy around 20 millions paying listeners in the U.S., with Apple Music reportedly in the lead. The source, a US-based, major distributor, shared a report detailing the subscriber tallies of several streaming music services, including Apple Music, Spotify, Tidal, and Sirius XM.

Additionally, the new data projects that Apple Music will widen the distance between Spotify in the coming months. Spotify falls into the same bracket, but has now dropped into second place when it comes to popularity. Many believed that it was just a matter of time before Apple Music grabs the top spot in the music streaming service. It's worth noting that Sirius XM Satellite Radio, which operates in North America exclusively, is now at the top spot with more than 33 million subscribers. However, this comparison also indicates Apple Music is more popular in the United States than Spotify. But while the headlines have been zeroed in on every move the platform makes, Apple Music has been steadily and silently edging ahead of the competition. To be exact, Spotify is growing 2% each month while Apple Music grows 5% each month.

Now that Apple Music has overtaken Spotify in terms of paid subscribers in the United States, what could be next for the music streaming service.

The next big battle between Apple Music and Spotify will be for the global music streaming crown, with Apple now boasting 45 million paying users worldwide versus 70 million for Spotify. 70 million of these enjoy the paid tier, Spotify Premium, whereas the others use the ad-supported free tier of the service.
