President Macron's rallying call to Nigerians

President Macron's rallying call to Nigerians

She stated: "Lagos happened to be one the most populated city on the continent and embodies the challenges, the difficulties but also the huge opportunities of African cities".

The President of France, Emmanuel Macron, has arrived at Fela Anikulapo Kuti's iconic Afrika Shrine in Ikeja, Lagos. So if I have one message for young people, it's this: "'Yes, politics is important; yes, be involved'".

He told reporters travelling with him: "I like Nigeria a lot".

"It will be about a new generation of African artists - for them by them", he said.

Macron, who said he was passionate about the development of Africa at an interactive session with African entrepreneurs, organised by the Tony Elumelu Foundation in Lagos on Wednesday, said the investment would go a long way in transforming the economy.

Macron has been a hit among Nigeria's youngsters, he's checked into the Afrika Shrine in mainland Lagos, he's rolled up his sleeves, he's danced on stage, he's saluted the boundless energy of Nigeria's youth and now he's spoken pidgin English! Being here, I do recognize their culture and respect their views.

He said the event would help create a unique face for African culture in Europe.

It also doesn't hurt that Macron interned at the French Embassy in Lagos, 15 years ago.

Governor Ambode said he was very optimistic Mr Macron's visit and activities would boost the state's quest to become the culture and entertainment capital of Africa, just as he said that the state government would seek to establish collaborations with France and play an integral part of the Year 2020 African Cultural Season in Paris as envisioned by President Macron.

In Nouakchott, Macron held talks with the leaders of the French-backed five-nation military force fighting Al-Qaeda-linked jihadists in the Sahel.

Femi Kuti, thrilled the French President and other guests alongside dancehall singer, Yemi Alade with their performances at the New Afrika Shrine on Tuesday.
