Jay-Z Becomes Creative Director of Puma

Marking its return to basketball in a big way, Puma announced the signing of Deandre Ayton, widely expected to be the number-one pick in Thursday's NBA Draft, to an multi-year endorsement deal. "Eventually I want to be a part of bringing this new style of Puma to my people".

It will be interesting to see how the company expands using its social feeds and by signing more renowned athletes in the future.

Currently, Puma has partnerships with track star Usain Bolt, Houston Texans linebacker Jadeveon Clowney, and golfer Rickie Fowler.

To solidify the relaunch into basketball, Puma also released 73 limited-edition pairs of Walt Frazier Clydes at the Puma Hoops HQ, located at 162 Flatbush Avenue in Brooklyn.

Puma is pursuing young players to add to their other endorsers like Big Sean and Rihanna. "What's important to him on a day like today is that it's clear we're making a serious push with players like Bagley and Ayton and Smith".

The news comes at a busy time for Jay-Z, who is now in the middle of his "On The Run II" tour with his superstar wife Beyonce. He became a part owner of the Brooklyn Nets in 2004, then sold off his sliver of ownership (less than 1 percent) in 2013 in order to become a registered agent (agents can not be team owners). It's a reasonable question.

Petrick said Puma had experience working with the rapper as part of his own company, Roc Nation, an entertainment venture boasting a record label, talent agency, and film and music production business. "They've been great partners to us for several years", Puma's global director of brand and marketing Adam Petrick told Complex.

Releasing a revolutionary album in 2017 dubbed "4:44", Sean Carter is again ahead of the pack with a new deal with Puma. Vince Carter, in 1998, who penned a 10-year deal that fell apart after just two seasons.
