A Daria Revival Is Coming to MTV

The show was produced by MTV Animation and ran for five seasons, following intelligent, acerbic teen misfit Daria as she navigated the daily aggravations and hypocrisies of school, family and the world in general with her artsy best friend, Jane.

The show will take on writer Grace Edwards, who's worked on other well-received comedy programs like "Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt" and "Inside Amy Schumer". Tentatively titled Daria and Jodie, the show is described (by TV Line) as a reinvention of the original serious "through the eyes of heroine Daria Morgendorffer and one of her closest friends Jodie Landon".

Do you miss Daria? "These two smart young women take on the world, with their signature satirical voice while deconstructing popular culture, social classes, gender, and race".

The Daria reboot is part of MTV's new production company MTV Studios.

MTV has announced MTV Studios, which will utilize the network's library of over 200 programs to launch new reboots that will not air on MTV, but rather be sold to, "partners across SVOD and Linear" platforms, which includes Netflix, Hulu and other streaming services. Under this plan, MTV is also working on bringing back the inspirational reality series Made alongside the previously announced live-action reboot of Aeon Flux and revival of the groundbreaking unscripted series The Real World.

In the spirit of The Hills and The City, this new show follows a group of 20 somethings in a classic coming of age docu-series featuring first loves, relationships and life decisions-with a twist.

Chris McCarthy, president of MTV, said in a statement that MTV Studios hopes to reimagine shows from its archives. You have a whole different generation of young people that are growing up that didn't experience cable in the way you and I did.
