Samsung could supply 6.9-inch AMOLED panel for the Huawei Mate 20

The Huawei Mate 20 Pro, a rumored follow-up to the Huawei Mate 10 and Mate 10 Pro, could come with a huge 6.9-inch OLED screen, according to Korean news publication The Bell (via XDA Developers). The expectations are that the Mate 20 could feature a 6.1-inch display while the Pro variant could have a 6.9-inch display.

To put that size in perspective, Apple's iPhone X has a 5.8-inch screen. These are meant to be used in a device launching in the fourth quarter of this year or the first quarter of 2019.

The device is said to be powered by Huawei's proprietary Kirin 980 chipset, a triple-lens camera arrangement on the back of the phone and an in-display fingerprint scanner. Till now, Apple's biggest screen size is that of iPhone 8 Plus which includes a 5.5-inch display.

Huawei is now one of the leading smartphone manufacturers in its home market, China.

We haven't heard much else about the Mate 20 Pro or the standard Huawei Mate 20 yet, but one early rumor suggests it could have an in-display fingerprint scanner, so that's another way it might stand out.

Commentators claim the Mate 20's 6.9-inch screen is aimed at Chinese consumers, who are demanding bigger phones for the large screen space taken up by Chinese characters. And the company is aiming to maintain the status quo.

Based on existing reports, the Mate 20 and Mate 20 Pro are believed to be announced by the end of October this year.

While not explicitly mentioned, the Mate series has always been the large-screen member of the Huawei family, with the Huawei Mate 9 and Mate 10 featuring a 5.9-inch display. A Weibo user posted the first round of information about the Mate 20.
