Id-El-Fitr: FG declares Friday, Monday public holidays

The Ruet-e-Hilal Committee is set to hold a meeting on Thursday (June 14) for Shawal moon sighting in Karachi.

"For the past two days, the weather has been dusty to confirm about the first day of Eid in Oman".

The Federal Government has declared Friday, 15 and Monday, 18 as public holidays to celebrate the 2018 Id-el Fitr.

The beginning of Eid Al Fitr in the UAE will be announced tonight after the moon-sighting committee convenes at the Abu Dhabi Judicial Department.

Muslim faithful, steadfast in observing the holy month of Ramadan this far, now look forward to the signal for celebrations.

In a news release, Boodhan said Eid celebrations were a time for building ties with one's family, friends and neighbours and said the occasion should be used as a time for introspection on one's contribution to society. Preparations have begun in full swing and we can already see markets hustling with Eid special desserts and delicacies, especially in the dingy lanes of Old Delhi; we love the hustle bustle and everything in between.

Islam follows the lunar calendar, based on phases of the Moon. Now, that Eid ul-Fitr is around the corner, it is quite probable that the moon sighting problem will persist yet again.

The National Motorway Company of Morocco (ADM) recommends drivers plan their trip in advance to avoid traffic jams during Eid al-Fitr.
