Raccoon scales St. Paul office tower, captivating public

The little raccoon's story began Monday when several downtown Twitter users snapped photos of the animal stranded on a second-story ledge near the Seventh Street skyway and Cedar Street.

This item has been corrected to show the building is called UBS Plaza, not UBS Tower. The story was picked up by Minnesota Public Radio and the raccoon's saga - with the hashtag "mprraccoon" went viral. "We were all anxious about him", says Sheila Donnelly-Coyne, an attorney whose firm, Paige Donnelly, is on the 23rd floor of the UBS building.

The critter was first spotted at the Town Square building in St. Paul, huddled in a nook above the sidewalk. Nelson captured an up-close video of the raccoon "doing a little grooming" on the 23rd floor window ledge.

The animal became a bit of a star on social media as people began to cheer on the creature during its attempt to summit the building.

Minnesota's department of safety inspections has set live traps for the raccoon on the roof so it can be safely returned to the ground.

"Any other measures we think would endanger him".

Animal control filled the roof with the aroma of food to encourage the raccoon to climb further upward. He's going to get to the top.

"This morning, we were talking about this". On a window ledge on the 22nd floor, it paused to rest. Minnesota Public Radio, from a building less than a block away, branded the raccoon #mprraccoon.
