Former Deputy Secretary of State Tony Blinken said North Korean leader Kim Jong Un left the Singapore summit with almost everything he wanted.

The two men kicked off their summit with a handshake shortly after 9 a.m. local time Tuesday - 9 p.m. Monday in NY - marking the first face-to-face encounter between a sitting United States president and a North Korean leader. The two leaders signed a document that pledges to renew U.S.

Huge concerns have been raised over the talks between the two leaders, which will take place 15 minutes after Donald Trump and Kim Jong-un meet for the first time.

Generally, meetings between top leaderships of countries that have been too incompatible with each other are preceded by comprehensive confidence-building measures. -North Korean relations and sees North Korea pledge to "work towards complete denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula". This makes the scope for misinterpretation even higher. Trump has said he will give a press conference later this afternoon, before departing Singapore at 7pm local time.

Then later, the narrator says, "a new world can begin today", as an animated sequence suggests what the impoverished North Korea could look like from space if it was as brightly lit up at night as the far more prosperous South Korea.

Kim called the sit-down a "good prelude for peace" and Trump pledged that "working together we will get it taken care of".

"On Twitter on Tuesday afternoon, Mr Trump introduced the video as "'A Story of Opportunity' that I shared with Kim Jong Un at the #SingaporeSummit".

Accompanying Trump were White House Chief of Staff John Kelly, National Security Advisor John Bolton, and Secretary of State Mike Pompeo.

In addition to those attending this morning's expanded bilateral talks, participating in the lunch on the North Korean side will be Minister of the People's Armed Forces No Kwang Chol and Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs Choe Son Hui.

"When Trump touches Kim's arm during the handshake, that's a sign of empathy".
