Harry Potter play wins six Tony awards

Ahead of the Tonys, Salonga was among the winners of the popular website Broadway World's annual Theater Fans' Choice Awards, where she was voted Best Featured Actress in a Musical for her performance in "Once on This Island". She accepted in tears, recounting that when she moved to NY, she was told to change her last name to Matthews or she wouldn't work.

The two-part spectacle Harry Potter and the Cursed Child had captured six, including best play, book, lighting, sound design, orchestrations and director John Tiffany, who asked the crowd to sing Happy Birthday to his boyfriend.

ABC | Celebrity Family Feud opened Season 4 with 7.4 million viewers and a 1.7 rating, dominating the night with its best numbers since July 24, 2016 and July 26, 2015, respectively.

"Robert De Niro said "F*** Trump" and got a standing ovation at the Tony Awards".

British actor Andrew Garfield also won his first Tony, for best leading actor in a play, for the seven-hour revival Angels of America, in which he plays a young gay man living with AIDS.

"We are all sacred and we all belong", Garfield said.

"What makes this fourth time special is that this is the first time I'll actually be on the Tony stage with my cast representing our Tony-nominated show!"

"Let's not forget that 90 percent of us leave empty-handed tonight".

Best Introduction: "I am handsome theater actress, Amy Schumer", said Amy Schumer, introducing My Fair Lady, "a comedy about class and sexism", when Eliza Doolittle is taken under the wing of Henry Higgins, "mans-splaining expert on dialects". Then, when Ari'el Stachel won for Best Featured Actor, it was clear that this was The Band's Visit's night. "If you're anything like me, I imagine you have a lot of questions - like, 'What happened? And they're looking at me right now and I can't believe it". Head writer Dave Boone did an excellent job of crafting material tailored to each person: Amy Schumer introduced the performance of My Fair Lady by calling it a "comedy about classism and sexism" and referring to Henry Higgins as a "mansplainer".

-The party didn't end when the telecast wrapped - celebrations continued late into the night at various after-parties.

But The Band's Visit wasn't the only Israel presence at the awards ceremony.

David Rooney, The Hollywood Reporter: The co-hosts were relaxed, natural and charmingly self-effacing throughout, starting with their tuneful opening number, which they began on dueling concert grand pianos and dedicated in advance to the losers - acknowledging how they've both been passed over for Grammy recognition themselves.

"I never dreamed that one day I, a Brit of all things, would be honoured with the same lifetime award that my idol won, by my peers and the true home of the musical, Broadway".
