Anthem Set For a February 2019 Release

The new game announcements at E3 2018 are officially underway after Electronic Arts (EA) previewed a range of new titles at an event ahead of the gaming trade show. According to a listing on Amazon Italy (spotted on ResetEra), Anthem's release date is February 19, 2019. With the lack of reveals that weren't expected, other than the new Star Wars game - which didn't even include an actual reveal - and the Clone Wars expansion for Star Wars Battlefront II, the rest was all sort of just. meh.

The new production is a multiplayer cooperative adventure with elements of action and RPG, which stands out for its graphics, but which also immerses the players in the universe of science fiction. The company behind games like Battlefield, Titanfall and the most recent Star Wars games is hosting its own event in Hollywood this weekend called EA Play. Players customize an array of powered Javelin exosuits and team up to face a risky and ever-changing world through exploration and combat.

The idea of adding a competitive multiplayer mode onto an otherwise strictly cooperative game also isn't unheard of. Hudson stated that their game wasn't an MMO and another Bioware developer said that it was going to be "a shared story" instead. However, given the controversy behind some of Bungie's design choices in Destiny 2, Anthem definitely stands poised to grab on to some former Destiny players that have been disillusioned. Many gamers fell in love with the adorable protagonist, as well as the smart use of puzzles in the game.

This year's EA press conference at E3 was largely focused on giving us more information about games we already knew existed. Lead Producer Mike Gamble told Game Informer that players will still be able to build relationships but without the romantic slant. It will have be an online game with players working together to complete quests. The game will release on September 7, 2018. It'll come out simultaneously for PC, PS4, and Xbox One, though it's a safe bet that EA Access and Origin Access will offer their usual Play First Trials several days earlier on Xbox One and PC respectively.

While it is not impossible to play alone, solo has been described as potentially more hard without the full four person team.

Vince Zampella got some air time to announce that his studio, Respawn Entertainment, is developing a new Star Wars title named Star Jedi: The Fallen Order. Despite this, we have modified this excellent Reddit post to reflect the times and dates that the events will take place in South African standard time.

And so here are 5 of the very best bits from EA Play 2018.
