Injured Ozil to miss Germany's final World Cup warm-up READ MORE

Ozil picked up the problem during Saturday's 2-1 defeat against Austria, and will not feature in Friday night's last warm-up match at the BayArena in Leverkusen.

"As a precaution, Mesut Ozil didn't take part in final training today, completing running exercises instead. He is out of #GERKSA with a minor bruise to his left knee", the German FA said on Twitter.

The 29-year-old has been training on his own at Germany's pre-World Cup camp in Italy but took part in some running routines with the squad on Thursday.

They also play South Korea and Sweden in Group F.

Germany playmaker Mesut Ozil is reportedly facing a race against time to be fit for this summer's World Cup.

"We do not want to take unnecessary risks, he did sprints today", Bierhoff said, quoted by the DFB website.

With Ozil out, Paris Saint-Germain's Julian Draxler is set to fill the attacking midfield role with Chelsea's Antonio Ruediger stepping in for Boateng if needed. The dropping of Sane caused massive shock worldwide as Manchester City's star performer has had a solid season, helping the English club with the Premier League title.

Colongne defender Jonas Hector is confident the players can produce the required display as part of final preparations before leaving their Italian training base at Eppan and heading to Russian Federation, where Germany will be the top nation in FIFA's latest rankings.

"We've worked through the defeat, taken our mistakes to heart - tomorrow we want to do a much better job", said left-back Jonas Hector. But he didn't play on the level that Leroy Sane played. And looking at his posts on social media, I get the impression he learned from it.
