Flight from Pyongyang lands in Singapore ahead of North Korean leader’s arrival

Mr Kim's itinerary was reported in detail, which is a rarity for the state's media, according to South Korea's Yonhap news agency.

On Sunday, Kim Jong-un arrived in Singapore where he is expected to hold a meeting with US President Donald Trump on June 12.

More than 1,000 people paid for a photo with the Kim-Trump lookalikes over the weekend.

The arrival of the Air China Airbus 330 flight at Changi airport raised speculation that a delegation of North Korean officials joined an advance team headed by Kim's close aide, Kim Chang Son, who was in Singapore to prepare for the talks.

Meanwhile, North Korean leader Kim has also said he now wants to focus on building the North Korean economy - and thus wants sanctions relief and global investment, read the report. The law imposes a financial ban and asset freezes on the government and its component parts, and the Workers Party of Korea, of which Kim is the chairman.

Although they are wary of rushing into an unpredictable political situation, South Korean businesses representatives and North Korea experts gathered at a conference in Seoul on Thursday to discuss potential inter-Korean cooperation.

"My father would be extremely delighted if they take steps to realise a permanent peace regime, an opportunity he missed by a hair's breadth", said Kim Hong-gul, his youngest son who now heads the Korean Council for Reconciliation and Cooperation, a coalition of about 200 civic groups working on inter-Korean peace. The Kim dynasty is also one of the worst human rights abusers on the planet, with a decades-long history of brutalizing its people.

Suh Hoon, who was instrumental in arranging the 2000 summit, is now Moon's spy chief and played a key role in pursuing the summit between Kim and Trump. He called for North Korea to follow a "Libya model" in negotiations.

But, barring a shock last minute development, the historic meeting between the United States and North Korean leaders will go ahead.

Speaking to Singapore media at the International Media Centre ahead of the planned Trump-Kim summit on Tuesday, Mr Lee said: "In terms of direct impact, (hosting the summit) gives us publicity". The North says it will not be unilaterally pressured into abandoning its nuclear programme.

President Trump arrived in Singapore Sunday night ahead of the summit.

The meeting was initially meant to rid North Korea of its nuclear weapons, but the talks have been portrayed by Trump in recent days more as a get-to-know-you session.

Vivian Balakrishnan, Singapore's minister for foreign affairs, tweeted a photograph of him welcoming Kim ― who was wearing a dark, pinstriped Maoist suit and sporting his trademark high-cut hairstyle ― to the Southeast Asian city-state.

Singapore is one of the few countries that have diplomatic relations with both the United States and North Korea.

"China will help both sides to meet their promises - it will be a guarantor and a mediator to ensure that any deals that are made at the summit are well implemented", Lu said.

She said the USA delegation would be led by Sung Kim, a veteran diplomat who recently held talks with North Korean officials.

"I think that Trump, Kim, and Moon is the ideal combination - this meeting would not have happened with Hilary Clinton, or Park Geun-hye".

A jet carrying Kim had landed hours earlier, and after shaking hands with the Singapore foreign minister, Kim sped through the city's streets in a massive limousine, two large North Korean flags fluttering on the hood, surrounded by other black vehicles with tinted windows and bound for the luxurious and closely guarded St. Regis Hotel.
