Lyon forward Nabil Fekir's Liverpool move falls through

Lyon forward Nabil Fekir's Liverpool move falls through

"He was looking forward to it because the visit he had was positive".

Despite talks being at an advanced stage on Friday and Liverpool agreeing terms with Lyon, a club statement was released on Saturday saying negotiations were over.

According to L'Equipe, Liverpool were so convinced they had the France global in the bag they allowed him to pick a shirt number.

With radio silence from Liverpool, and the club refusing to issue any kind of update on it, it was left for Lyon to break the silence.

Earlier today, Le Graët had told reporters he believes negotiations for Fekir's move to Anfield are nearing completion, claiming the player passed the requisite physical checks at France's Clairefontaine base. He joins the list alongside the likes of Naby Keita and Fabinho with the Reds still being expected to continue their spending spree this summer.

Lyon categorically denied that Jurgen Klopp's side would be signing their attacking midfielder.

Their statement read as follows: "The information on the transfer of Nabil Fekir is false".

Nabil Fekir is soon to be a Red!

Fekir scored 21 goals in all competitions for Lyon this past season.

"He will lead the club going into the 2018/2019 season". Nothing has yet emerged about how Fekir feels about his move to Liverpool being cancelled, but you can imagine he's not happy.

British and French media have been reporting for several days that the 24-year-old, who is part of France's World Cup squad, was on the verge of joining Liverpool for 60-70 million euros (USD 71-82 million). He was Ligue 1's second best dribbler previous year, which is a no mean feat considering the fact that the French top flight boasts some of the best up-and-coming dribblers.

Nabil Fekir's proposed move to Liverpool is dead - at least until after the World Cup anyway.
