Arsenal Agree £16m Deal for Dortmund Defender Sokratis Papastathopoulos

Today, the latest new on Sokratis Papastathopoulos to Arsenal...

Premier League campaigners, Arsenal have reportedly sealed a KSh 2.1 billion deal with Bundesliga side, Borussia Dortmund for highly-rated defender, Sokratis Papastathopoulos.

The Gunners will reportedly pay an initial £16m for the 30-year-old Greece worldwide.

The newspaper says Sokratis will become Emery's second major signing of the summer following the arrival of Stephan Lichsteiner from Juventus but the transfer may not be officially announced until next month.

Arsenal have been handed a boost by news that Aaron Ramsey is ready to commit his future to the north London club, according to reports in the British media.

If unable to secure Ramsey's future, it's claimed Arsenal will invest in midfielders, in addition to their other priority - defence.

The Daily Telegraph, as quoted by Metro, is reporting that the Gunners are "optimistic" that the Wales worldwide will agree a deal to stay at Arsenal beyond the end of his current contract.

The Telegraph add that Manchester United midfielder Marouane Fellaini remains a possibility for Gunners, despite not being a primary target.

Arsenal are trying to keep the midfielder, who missed out on England's World Cup side that will travel to Russian Federation.

Arsenal are willing to offer lucrative terms to a player who registered 20 goals and assists combined in all competitions last season, given the likely cost and difficulty of finding a suitable replacement.
