CNN confirmed Bourdain's death and said the cause of death was suicide.

His death has been reported as suicide. "One of the great storytellers who connected w so many", Ripert wrote.

In the same Paris Review piece, Newnam recalled Bourdain's response to a tripe-phobic listener who asked if it was okay if she informed her host she's rather poke her eye out than eat whatever trendy offal was on their menu.

One of the most influential figures in the gastronomic world, Bourdain was best known for his memoir Kitchen Confidential as well as his television programs No Reservations, The Layover and Parts Unknown. I wish him peace.

"Every time the show airs we get an influx of visitors from the USA and other parts of Canada", he said.

Bourdain, born in NY in 1956, graduated from the Culinary Institute of America in 1978 and first became known for his 2000 book Kitchen Confidential: Adventures in the Culinary Underbelly.

CNN will broadcast a tribute to Bourdain titled Remembering Anthony Bourdain at 10 p.m. ET on Friday night. Through his TV shows and books, he explored the human condition and helped audiences think differently about food, travel and themselves. He can be seen smiling, while his girlfriend Asia Argento dances to music.

Anthony Bourdain in Newfoundland while filming a recent episode of CNN's "Parts Unknown". "Maybe that I grew up a little", he told the magazine. Bourdain also said in an interview with People Magazine last month that he'd like to continue working for the rest of his life, saying retirement was not for him. Many have simply said that they are absolutely "stunned" at the loss of such a brilliant and talented man under such unfortunate circumstances. I might have deluded myself into thinking that I'd be happy in a hammock or gardening. "I'm going to pretty much die in the saddle".

On CNN, anchors struggled to hold back tears as they reminisced about their late colleague and urged people faced with despair or who know people struggling with depression to call a suicide hotline.

Bourdain's death comes three days after American designer Kate Spade was found dead in her NY apartment on Tuesday from a reported suicide.
