Sister of Dutch Queen Maxima found dead in Argentina

She was a bridesmaid for her sister's 2002 marriage to then-Dutch Crown Prince Willem-Alexander, and goddaughter for the couple's youngest daughter, 11-year-old Princess Ariane.

Other details about her death were not immediately available, but Zorreguieta had reportedly suffered from eating disorders and depression.

Queen Maxima, 47, a native of Argentina, is "shocked and devastated" by her younger sister's death, according to a statement to Dutch newspaper De Volksrant.

Argentina-born Queen Maxima has cancelled all engagements on her upcoming agenda, the Royal Palace has confirmed.

Inés and Maxima's father, Jorge Zorreguieta, died previous year.

Ms Zorreguieta was a psychologist who worked for an office on social policies at the president's office. "I wish them all the strength necessary to carry this terrible loss together and I trust that they will get the peace and space for that".

Understandably, the Queen is shocked and very upset. "And I trust that they will get the peace and space for that".

Nor will she accompany the king on the state visit to Lithuania, Estonia and Latvia next week, the state information service RVD told Dutch media.

His past caused some controversy in the Netherlands, and prompted a debate in the Dutch parliament ahead of his daughter's marriage to the crown prince. She had also worked for the social development ministry in Buenos Aires province and at a United Nations office in Panama.
